24 Market Square · Pouring Since Prohibition

A SAILOR'S BAR.
A FOODIE'S KITCHEN.

This room's been serving drinks since Prohibition, one way or another. We made it official as The Thirsty Whale in the 1980s. Come for the burgers and the Reuben, stay for the regulars who'll make you feel like one too.

A Longer Story Than You'd Guess

Drinks have been poured in this room since Prohibition.

Long before it was The Thirsty Whale, this exact room in Market Square was already keeping people's glasses full — quietly, and technically illegally, back when Prohibition tried to shut it down. We've got the photos to prove it: locals bellied up to the same bones of this bar, decades before anyone here was born.

We made it official — and legal — as The Thirsty Whale in the 1980s, but the spirit never really changed. The bartenders still pour heavy, the kitchen still doesn't cut corners, and the room still feels like it belongs to whoever's sitting in it that night.

A weekly lunch spot for good reason — the kitchen team consistently turns out food that beats expectations, and the staff makes you feel like part of the neighborhood.

Walked in during a downpour and got treated like regulars anyway — friendly bartenders, well-made drinks, and a small room with a lot of character.

One of the better bites you'll find near Market Square — creative pub food that's a cut above what you'd expect from a neighborhood bar.
